Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC) Test

Description
The capacity of the transferrin to bind iron.
Testing moment
No fasting needed, but blood sampling should preferably be performed in the morning.
Low values causes
  • Certain inflammatory diseases
  • Protein reduction in the blood
High values causes
  • Anemia caused by iron deficiency
  • Hemochromatosis
  • Oral contraceptives
