Produced by the pituitary gland.

Low values causes
  • Hyperthyroidism (the accelerated functioning of the thyroid gland)
  • Too high a dosage of the thyroid hormones supplements (e.g. Synthroid)
  • Problems at the level of the pituitary gland
  • Pregnancy
  • Certain drugs
High values causes
  • Hypothyroidism (the slow functioning of the pituitary gland)
  • Too weak of adosage of the thyroid hormones supplements (e.g. Synthroid) or their inadequate intake
  • Problems at the level of the pituitary gland

Stress and the intake of certain drugs should be avoided prior to sampling.
