HPV is a virus, commonly called human papillomavirus.

It is a sexually transmitted infection, commonly spread in Canada.

There are a hundred strains, but only some of them are responsible for genital condyloma or genital warts.

Certain strains can cause uterine cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, anal cancer and more rarely, penile cancer.

According to several trials, more than 99 % women that have caught HPV will not develop cancer. In Quebec, 1 man out of 100,000 will develop penile cancer.

The Pap test is the first detection examination carried out once a year in sexually active women. The aim of this examination is to trace any abnormal cells at the level of the uterine cervix in order to prevent cancer. This test is covered by La Régie de l’Assurance-Maladie du Québec (RAMQ) (The Quebec Health Insurance Division).

There is also a HPV detection test, which can be performed by the private medical laboratories, as its costs are not RAMQ-covered.

Medical novelties

In 2006, certain pharmaceutical companies placed on the market vaccines termed Gardasilmd and Cevarixmd. These vaccines proved to be efficient against certain types of HPV.

In order to find out more on this topic you can simply talk with your gynecologist or your family doctor.

E-Zlab Health Services offers an analysis that combines the Pap test and the HPV detection test in only one sampling test called THIN PREP Pap Test. The costs are refunded by most private or collective insurance plans. Simply consult your insurer if such case may be.

Perscription & Insurance

All our tests require a medical prescription recommended by any practicing doctor in the province of Quebec.

These prescriptions are necessary in order to proceed with either test and we urge that all medical requests originating from offices or clinics be duly identified.

All medical analysis requested by your doctor are reimbursed by a majority of private insurance companies!
