There are indeed several companies that require a toxicological analysis in order to check the presence of any illicit drugs prior to hiring a new employee, as certain trades are more risky, as for example big rig drivers, train conducters, truck drivers and other trades that call for vigilance.
Are there other instances where drug detection could be necessary ?
This toxicological examination may be required for monitoring purposes, when a drug substitution treatment is being carried out for somebody and, of course, during a high level sports competition.
From where could I get a medical prescription ?
You can have a detection test prescribed, appointment-free, by a physician in a clinic or by your family doctor. In a pre-hiring context, the employers may have in their team a regular doctor responsible for prescribing laboratory tests.
Is a prescription mandatory for this test ?
Yes, it is mandatory to have a medical prescription in order to undergo any test or laboratory analysis.
What does the illicit drug detection test consist of ?
It usually consists of one urine sampling without having to be on an empty stomach and sometimes, in certain situations, a hair, blood or even saliva sample might be taken.
The registered nurse responsible for sampling will have to explain to you the rules concerning the procedure in order for the illicit drug test to be carried out rigorously.
Our recommendation is for you to advise the sample taking registered nurse whether you are taking certain drugs likely to distort your test in a positive way (e.g. such narcotic pain killers as Codeine Continmd, Kadianmd, M-Eslonmd, amphetamines – such as Adderall XRmd, Dexedrinemd, Vyvansemd for attention deficiency, such sleeping pills as Ativanmd, Dalmanemd, Restorilmd and others)
What illicit drugs are detected during this examination ?
In general, the illicit drug detection test targets the presence of:
Alcohol (ethanol)
Amphetamines, Ecstasy or LSD
Barbiturates
Benzodiazepines

Our registered nursing staff go to your work or to your house for performing the illicit drug detection. Appointments can be made 7 days a week.

All our tests require a medical prescription recommended by any practicing doctor in the province of Quebec.
These prescriptions are necessary in order to proceed with either test and we urge that all medical requests originating from offices or clinics be duly identified.
