Analysis of the FIT TEST / GUAIAC

This analysis detection of blood in the stool is non-invasive, simple to perform and effective in preventing one of the most common cancers in Canada, colorectal cancer.

A test called FIT test is now available for examining blood in the stool. A single stool sample is needed to perform this analysis. Furthermore, no special diet is required prior to this test.

We also offer a test for blood in the stool that is performed over 3 consecutive days, called the GUAIAC, and it requires which a special diet before the test and during the 3 days of the test. The nurse will provide the necessary information prior to this analysis.

According to an article in La Presse published in March 2013, people between the ages of 50 and 74 years old must have a screening for colorectal cancer in Quebec. This test is normally performed before colonoscopies and colonoscopy (more invasive method).

Screening is the best way to prevent diseases such as colorectal cancer, which is the case here.

Thus, the FIT TEST enables doctors to diagnose colorectal cancer.

Do I need a prescription or doctor’s order to have this test?

A prescription is required before receiving the test. Your doctor may provide it at your next medical appointment.

How long does it take to receive the result of the FIT TEST?

The result of the FIT TEST is generally obtained within 4 to 5 days.
