Hepatitis A, B or C is a liver inflammation caused by a virus.

Even though there are certain symptoms associated to hepatitis, such as nausea, vomiting, fever, fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, yellow coloration of the skin and of the eyes (jaundice) and dark colored urine, they are not always present in the individuals affected by it.

Generally speaking, hepatitis A is curable within a few weeks without treatment, as the body produces antibodies against hepatitis A, thus eliminating the infection-causing virus.

In case of Hepatitis B, the body produces antibodies, thus pushing the virus away, however in certain situations, an individual might not succeed, so he/she will pass the virus to another person without feeling any symptoms. He is then called a chronic carrier. There are treatments that help controlling the course of the disease.

Only certain individuals suffering from hepatitis C can eliminate the virus in a few weeks by producing antibodies, because in most cases they do not succeed, as the virus is very strong, so they become chronic carriers and pass on the virus. There are treatments that help controlling the course of the disease.

The antibodies produced by an affected person do not protect against a new infection with the virus of hepatitis C.

The consequences in the individuals that chronically carry hepatitis B or C are liver cirrhosis, severe hepatitis and liver cancer.

Blood tests can enable you to check whether you are immunized against hepatitis A or B. A blood test required by your doctor can prove whether there has been any contact with the virus or whether a severe or chronic infection is present.

We offer a wide range of serological tests. Just refer to the list for finding out more.
